Farizal wants to win back senior team place

Negri Sembilan goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Marlias, who played well to deny English giants Chelsea numerous goal-scoring chances in the friendly against a Malaysian Selection on Thursday, is now targeting a spot back in the senior national side.

The 25-year-old Farizal was part of the national team but was dropped before the AFF Suzuki Cup last year due to an injury and was subsequently replaced by Mohd Sharbinee Allawee.

On Thursday, Farizal made at least three crucial saves to keep a clean sheet for the Malaysian side before being replaced by Harimau Muda A keeper Mohd IzhamTarmizi in the 75th minutes. Chelsea duly scored in the 80th minute, albeit a controversial Didier Drogba goal.

“It’s good to be back and it felt good to play well against Chelsea,” said Farizal, who had an injury-prone season last year in which he broke his cheekbone.

“Hopefully, I can continue playing well and keep up this level of performance and maybe earn my spot in national team again,” said Farizal.
