Sarawak shot to the top of the Super League for a while after beating PKNS 2-0 as a late Hafiz Kamal goal gave Malaysia Cup champions Pahang a 3-2 win over Darul Ta'zim in Kuantan yesterday.
Promoted side Sarawak joined six teams on six points to lead only on goals scored after fans flooded the Selayang Stadium and saw their team go 2-0 up inside 16 minutes thanks to two long throw-ins by Ronny Harun.
Milorad Janjus headed in the first in the ninth minute past an unsighted PKNS goalkeeper Zamir Selamat before Gabor Gyepes repeated the trick seven minutes later.
Joseph Kalang Tie thought he made it 3-0 when he had the ball in the net in the 49th minute but it was correctly ruled out when he handled it in the process.
Janjus then missed a sitter, blazing over the bar when Zamir could only parry Ashru Chuchu's shot before the goalkeeper denied the Serbian from point-blank range.
At the other end, Fadzley Rahim's fingertips steered PKNS hot-shot Patrick Wleh's drive wide before Gyepes' goalline clearance denied the Liberian.
Fadzley tipped Khairu Azrin Razali's looping header against the bar in the 82nd minute to deny PKNS a consolation.
Fans were segregated by barbed wire at the Darulmakmur Stadium as star-studded Darul Ta'zim's winless run in the league extended to three matches.
Hafiz struck deep into stoppage-time when he connected to Azidan Sarudin's free-kick to send the home fans wild.
Argentinian Matias Conti gave Pahang the lead in the 13th minute when he capitalised on a mix up in the visitors' defence to slot the ball past on-rushing goalkeeper Norazlan Razali.
Pahang almost made it 2-0 seven minutes later when Fauzi Roslan's header rattled the Darul Ta'zim crossbar, a miss which proved costly as Pablo Aimar turned in Amri Yahyah's pass for the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
However, Fauzi Roslan restored the lead for Pahang two minutes into the second half before substitute Safee Sali drew the visitors level with his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute.

Pahang upsets Singapore while T-Team abandons match in FA Cup
The FA Cup second round match between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and T-Team ended abruptly at the Larkin Stadium.
It is learnt that the visiting team decided not to take to the field in the second-half, with JDT leading 2-1, as they feared for their safety.
It is also learnt that a scuffle had broken out during the break as the players and officials headed for the tunnel. Television footage also showed JDT striker Pablo Aimar involved in a heated argument with a T-Team coaching staff.
Match commissioner Zainal Mukri said he would refer the incident to the FAM competitions committee.
He also confirmed that a shouting match took place between JDT coach Cesar Jimenez and a T-Team fitness coach.
“I have yet to receive the reasons for T-Team’s decision in not coming out for the second half,” he said.
“The match will be postponed and I will also be sending the report to the FAM for further action."
JDT had taken a 2-0 lead through Argentine forward Luciano Figueroa in the 15th and 20th minutes before T-Team pulled a goal back through skipper Mohd Marzuki Yusof in the 26th minute off a freekick.
Meanwhile, Pahang created an upset of sorts when they ended Lions XII’s unbeaten home record at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
The Singaporeans, who have been unbeaten at home since July 2012, lost 2-1 to the Elephants in the second round of the FA Cup.
Midfielder Hafiz Kamal scored from a freekick in the 50th minute before his midfield partner Azidan Sarudin struck five minutes later to end the Lions’ 22-match unbeaten home run.
Defender Safuwan Baharudin reduced the deficit off a freekick in the 85th minute but it wasn’t enough for Fandi Ahmad’s men to mount a comeback.
The Lions’ last home defeat was a 1-0 setback to Johor FC in a Super League match in July 14, 2012.

Selangor loses to Singapore LionsXII again
Francis Doe's late goal gave Kelantan sole possession of top spot and the only 100 per cent record in the Super League yesterday as title rivals Darul Ta'zim and Selangor slumped to away defeats.
Kelantan took advantage of the upsets to open a three-point lead after just two rounds of matches with a 1-0 win over Sarawak, who are the only team without a point, in Kuching.
Defending champions LionsXII maintained their unbeaten record against Selangor in five meetings with a 2-1 win at the Jalan Besar Stadium thanks to Khairul Amri Kamal's stoppage time header while Kuala Terengganu T-Team stunned Darul Ta'zim 1-0.

Pahang move into joint top place in Premier League
Pahang caught up with Premier League leaders Armed Forces (ATM) when they defeated club side Betaria of Negeri Sembilan 2-0 at the Temerloh Stadium Friday night.
The two teams now are sharing 26 points a piece, Pahang with an inferior goal difference, after 12 rounds of matches.
Azamuddin Mohd Akil scored the first goal in the 48th minute followed by Mohd Azuan in the 77th minute.
ATM on the other hand were only able to carve out a 2-2 draw against Police at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya.

Pahang beat Kedah to win Charity Shield in Minister of Education League Cup
SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang lifted the Charity Shield when they edged SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah 3-2 in the curtain raiser to the Minister of Education League (MELC)-100PLUS Cup football competition in Gambang yesterday.
Mohd Shahrul was the toast of SMK Seberang Temerloh when he fired a brace, including the winning goal in the 65th minute after both teams were tied 2-2.
Shahrul had his name on the score sheet earlier in the 23rd minute while Shahibul Qayyum Fadhillah netted the other goal in the 19th minute.
SMK Tunku Anum replied through Mazlan Mohd (sixth) and Mohd Firdaus Ismail (35th).

T-Team coach happy with team's hard-fought win over Pahang in FA Cup
T-Team coach Yunus Alif is glad that his club side never know when they are beaten after fighting back twice for a 3-2 win over Pahang at the Sultan Ismail Stadium to earn a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
“I am very proud of my players … they showed strength of character although we were hardly in the game,” Yunus said yesterday.
“I have always reminded the players to dig in deep and never give up … tonight (Friday) they showed me their will to win and courage to do the impossible.”
Mohd Faiz Subri was the hero for the home side when he grabbed the stoppage-time winner in the 94th minute.
All the goals came in the second-half of a hotly contested match, which saw five players being booked and Pahang having a goal ruled out for offside midway through the second half.
Pahang’s Hazuan Daud opened the scoring in the 49th minute before T-Team drew level through Azrul Hazran six minutes later. Pahang went ahead again in the 58th minute when Mohd Azamuddin Akil scored a wonder goal from a corner kick.
However, T-Team’s Mohd Fadzli Saari more than matched it when he scored with a spectacular bicycle kick to tie the game in the 62nd minute.
“What a goal it was by Fadzli … the bicycle kick was simple magnificent,” enthused Yunus.
With the game poised to go into extra-time, Faiz became Pahang’s public enemy number one when he scored with a glancing header in the 94th minute.
“I reserve special praise for Fadzli and Faiz … they were both wonderful. Their performance spurred their team-mates on,” said Yunus, who was far from impressed with the displays of skipper Zairo Anuar Zailani and goalkeeper Mohd Syamsuri Mustafa.
“Zairo was ineffective but I am sure it will not be long before he finds his form.
“As for Syamsuri … I told him to watch out for the high balls since it was windy.
“His mistake led to Pahang’s second goal.”
Meanwhile, Pahang coach and former national player Dollah Salleh conceded that they lost to a better team.
However, he questioned the standard of refereeing.
Dollah said that the disallowed goal denied his team from taking what would have been a comfortable 3-1 lead.
“The linesman was at fault as our player was not offside. It would have been a different game if that goal had been allowed,” he said.
Yunus, however, is proud of his men’s performance, saying they nearly prodouced an upset.
He feels that their display was a good stepping stone towards better performances in the Premier League.

T-Team beat Pahang to progress to quarter-final of FA Cup
Club side T-Team became the first team to book their FA Cup quarter-final ticket after coming from behind twice to edge Pahang 3-2 in a dramatic match at the Sultan Ismail Stadium last night.
Mohd Faiz Subri turned hero for the home side when he grabbed the stoppage-time winner in the 94th minute.
All goals were scored in the second-half of the evenly contested and fiery tie, which saw five players booked.
Pahang drew first blood in the 49th minute when Hazuan Daud’s screamer from the edge of the box stunned T-Team goalkeeper Mohd Syamsuri Mustafa.
T-Team took just six minutes to draw level when Azrul Hazran found the net with a powerful shot from inside the box.
The home crowd’s cheers were silenced in spectacular fashion in the 58th minute when Pahang’s top scorer Mohd Azamuddin Akil curled a corner kick directly into the T-Team goal, leaving goalkeeper Mohd Syamsuri Mustafa shell-shocked.
Azamuddin’s audacious effort, however, was matched by T-Team’s former international striker Mohd Fadzli Saari in the 62nd minute.

Pahang looking to upset T-Team in FA Cup
Pahang have warned their rivals that they aim to continue with their giant-killing ways in the FA Cup competition when they face Super League outfit T-Team in the second round at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu tonight.
The Premier League side upset top flight team Felda United FC 1-0 last month and coach Dollah Salleh is confident his men can pull off another surprise.
“We have a good chance to clinch a quarter-final ticket. We are not bragging but, based on the team’s strong performances and our current form, I won’t be surprised if we pull off another upset against T-Team,” said Dollah from Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
The Pahang coach expects his two new Russian signings – Boris Kochkin and Eduard Sakhnevich – to provide more fire up front and to work in tandem with in-form forward Mohd Azamuddin Akil, who already has six goals to his credit.
“The two Russians are getting better and this is a good sign for us. Azamuddin is on fire and has been outstanding in creating chances and scoring,” said Dollah.

Sime Darby FC and Pahang cause upset wins in FA Cup
Premier League Sime Darby FC and Pahang stunned Super League Sabah and Felda United 2-0 and 1-0 respectively in the first round of the FA Cup yesterday.
Pahang midfielder Mohd Hafiz Kamal rifled in a free-kick in the 41st minute to down Felda United 1-0 at the Hang Tuah Stadium in Malacca.
Sime Darby beat Sabah 2-0 with goals from defender Mohd Shazlan Alias in the 40th minute and Liberian striker Patrick Wleh five minutes later at the Selayang MC Stadium.
Sime Darby coach Ismail Zakaria was proud of his players who gave a disciplined performance against the much heralded Rhinos.

Pahang to rely on Russian forwards for goals against Felda United in FA Cup
Pahang will have more depth in attack with the introduction of their two new Russian signings for the FA Cup match against Super League side Felda United at the Hang Jebat Stadium today.
Coach Dollah Salleh said Boris Kochkin and Eduard Sakhnevich would provide more fire upfront together with the Elephants’ in-form striker Mohd Azamuddin Akil, who has four goals to his credit.
“There is no pressure on the team but all eyes will be on our new Russian signings. I’m sure they will forge a better understanding with the team after a few matches,” said Dollah yesterday.
Pahang, FA Cup winners in 2006, are looking for a good run in the competition. But Dollah said their priority was in topping the Premier League to win promotion to the top flight. After seven matches, Pahang are in second spot in the 12-team standings with 16 points – two behind leaders Armed Forces.
Sime Darby FC, another Premier League side, will be in action against Sabah at the Selayang Stadium today.

Pahang beat Johor to move into first place in Premier League
Pahang pushed the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) off the top of the Premier League table Tuesday night after defeating Johor 2-0 at the Temerloh Municipal Council Stadium here.
In the sole Premier League match of the evening, the rousing support of the 5,000 host fans charged the state team to control play and launched repeated attacks at their opponents.
The attacking play paid off in the 11th minute when Azamuddin Mohd Akil put a cross pass from Gopinathan just outside of the box into the net.
Dollah Salleh's boys further strengthened their position with another goal through a Nana Yaw pass to Wan Azwari before crossing it into the penalty box for Azamuddin to slot in his second goal of the match in the 28th minute.
In the second half, the home team continued to mount pressure on Johor to improve the scoreline but at the final whistle, the score remained Pahang 2 Johor 0.

Armed Forces to improve defending after struggling against Pahang in Premier League
Barely deserving of the three points they gained from a 3-2 win over nine-man Pahang on Friday, Armed Forces can ill-afford to repeat the defensive horror show they put on in the first half of the Premier League match at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Friday.
Pahang, who fell to their first defeat, had Forces in sixes and sevens at the back before the visitors had centre-back Saifulnizam Miswan sent off in the 75th minute and substitute Christie Jayaseelan took full advantage to score the winner nine minutes later.
Twice before Forces led but a shaky display by Amirizwan Taj Tajudin in the centre of defence allowed Pahang to equalise each time before Forces coach B. Sathianathan withdrew the centre-back at half-time and sent on A. Varanthan as Irwan Fadzli Idrus resumed his partnership with Aidil Zafuan Radzak.
"He was not at his best and had not played for some time. I thought I'd mix it up a little in defence but with Pahang coming from all angles, he lost concentration and could not cope.
"But he is still a good player and will improve in time," said Sathianathan of the 25-year-old Amirizwan, who earned a surprise national call up and his first international cap in Malaysia's 1-1 draw with India last year.
The win took Forces back to the top of the standings after suffering their first defeat in a replayed 2-1 defeat to Sime Darby on Jan 21 though Pahang's indiscipline did them a huge favour.

Police beat Pahang to move into first place in Premier League
Police edged Pahang to lead the Premier League after defeating Perlis 4-2 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi Friday night.
However, they have played five matches as compared to four by Pahang who take on Armed Forces on Feb 3.
Khairul Izuan Abdullah was the hero for Police tonight, scoring all four of their goals in the 24th, 27th, 55th and 87th minutes while Perlis' goals were netted by Mohd Rizal Mohd Ghazali (3rd minute) and Mohd Khairul Ramadhan Mohd Zawawi (17th minute).
MP Muar also had a good night defeating Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB FC) 5-2 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Muar.
Mohd Alafi Mahmud scored a brace for the hosts with his goals coming in the 51st and 71st minutes while their other goals were supplied by Mohamad Syaiful Sabtu (76th), Mohd Azuwad Mohd Arip (90th) and Abdul Rayjal Abdul Jalil (91st).
MBJB's goals were provided by Azmi Sarmin in the 9th minute (penalty) and 92nd minute.

Pahang move up to first place after drawing with Perlis in Premier League
Though Pahang recorded a 2-2 draw with Perlis at Stadium Utama in Kangar Friday night, it was good enough for them to take the lead in the Premier League.
Pahang's goals were scored by Mohd Hafiz Mohd Kamal in the 17th minute and Hazwan Mohd Daud (46th minute) while Perlis' import player Muhammad Lamin Conteh saved the homesters the blushes when he netted a brace with his goals coming in the 90th minute and a minute into injury time.

Armed Forces maintain lead in Premier League after third win
Premier League leaders Armed Forces gunned down the Young Tigers (Harimau Muda B) 2-0 at the Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya Stadium to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.
The win tonight was the third in as many matches for the army boys under the command of 'general' B. Sathianathan (coach) and helped them stay on top of the Premier League table although Pahang are breathing down their neck with identical points but inferior goal difference.
Former international and Negeri Sembilan ace striker Hairuddin Omar set the tone for the win with the first goal in the 71st minute while Christie Jayaselan made sure of all three points with the second goal in the 80th minute.
Pahang kept pace with the leader after coming from behind to beat Sime Darby 2-1 at the Perbandaran Temerloh Stadium with goals from Mohd Saiful Nizam Miswan (31st) and R. Gopinathan (66th min) after Muhd Zamri Hassan had given the visitors a 10th minute lead.

Pahang players get rewards for winning Sultan Gold Cup
The Pahang football squad that won the Sultan's Gold Cup last Sunday received a cash bonus from Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah here today.
Team manager Datuk Mazran Abu Bakar said Tengku Abdullah had agreed to give the team RM60,000 for successfully ending a 21-year drought in the competition by beating Melaka 3-1 at the Temerloh Municipal Mini Stadium.
"The Sultan of Pahang is also rewarding the team with a Jakarta tour from Jan 22 to 25.
"At the same time, we have also arranged for a friendly match with Pelita Jaya FC which would feature Malaysia's sensational striker Safee Sali on Jan 23," he told reporters here Saturday.
He said the win would also auger well for Pahang in their M-League outing this season.
He said 11 players from the victorious squad would be absorbed into the Pahang team for the Premier League campaign.
Mazran said the success was also a boost to the morale of supporters who have loss confidence in the state team's performance in the M-League.
Tengku Abdullah who witnessed the cup final was satisfied with the huge turnout at the stadium.
In the final, Pahang crushed Melaka 3-1 with goals from Mohd Hafiz Kamal in the 35th minute, Mohd Fauzi Rozlan (76th min) and Abd Malik Mat Ariff (78th min) while the consolation goal for Melaka came from Zailan Mohammad in the 27th minute.
Mazran said the last time Pahang won the cup was in 1980 when they beat Perak 4-2.

Mazran said the success was also a boost to the morale of supporters who have loss confidence in the state team's performance in the M-League.
Tengku Abdullah who witnessed the cup final was satisfied with the huge turnout at the stadium.
In the final, Pahang crushed Melaka 3-1 with goals from Mohd Hafiz Kamal in the 35th minute, Mohd Fauzi Rozlan (76th min) and Abd Malik Mat Ariff (78th min) while the consolation goal for Melaka came from Zailan Mohammad in the 27th minute.
Mazran said the last time Pahang won the cup was in 1980 when they beat Perak 4-2.

Pahang beat Malacca to win King's Gold Cup
Pahang have emerged as the champion of Piala Emas Raja-Raja (King's Gold Cup) by defeating Melaka 3-1 in the final at the Temerloh Municipal Mini Stadium Sunday night.
Cheered by more than 5,000 supporters of the home team, Pahang repeated its 1980 success when the state beat Perak 4-2 in the same championship.
However, it was Melaka who broke the ice in the 27th minute with Zailan Mohammad finding the net from a shot just outside of the penalty box but Pahang equalised from a free kick by Mohd Hafiz Kamal in the 35th minute.
In the second half, Mohd Fauzi Rozlan of Pahang made a fine run from mid field to push the ball into Melaka's goal to lead with 2-1 in the 76th minute.
Two minutes later an Abd Malik Mat Ariff's header from a free kick by Mohd Hafiz Kamal found the net again for Pahang's third goal.
At the final whistle, the score remained with Pahang beating Melaka 3-1.
The cup was presented by Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who is also the Deputy President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
