Sarawak beat PKNS to maintain good form

Sarawak shot to the top of the Super League for a while after beating PKNS 2-0 as a late Hafiz Kamal goal gave Malaysia Cup champions Pahang a 3-2 win over Darul Ta'zim  in Kuantan yesterday.

Promoted side Sarawak joined six teams on six points to lead only on goals scored after fans flooded the Selayang Stadium and saw their team go 2-0 up inside 16 minutes thanks to two long throw-ins by Ronny Harun.

Milorad Janjus headed in the first in the ninth minute past an unsighted PKNS goalkeeper Zamir Selamat before Gabor Gyepes repeated the trick seven minutes later.

Joseph Kalang Tie thought he made it 3-0 when he had the ball in the net in the 49th minute but it was correctly ruled out when he handled it in the process.

Janjus then missed a sitter, blazing over the bar when Zamir could only parry Ashru Chuchu's shot before the goalkeeper denied the Serbian from point-blank range.

At the other end, Fadzley Rahim's fingertips steered PKNS hot-shot Patrick Wleh's drive wide before Gyepes' goalline clearance denied the Liberian.

Fadzley tipped Khairu Azrin Razali's looping header against the bar in the 82nd minute to deny PKNS a consolation.

Fans were segregated by barbed wire at the Darulmakmur Stadium as star-studded Darul Ta'zim's winless run in the league extended to three matches.

Hafiz struck deep into stoppage-time when he connected to Azidan Sarudin's free-kick to send the home fans wild.

Argentinian Matias Conti gave Pahang the lead in the 13th minute when he capitalised on a mix up in the visitors' defence to slot the ball past on-rushing goalkeeper Norazlan Razali.

Pahang almost made it 2-0 seven minutes later when Fauzi Roslan's header rattled the Darul Ta'zim crossbar, a miss which proved costly as Pablo Aimar turned in Amri Yahyah's pass for the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

However, Fauzi Roslan restored the lead for Pahang two minutes into the second half before substitute Safee Sali drew the visitors level with his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute.

Sarawak coach not happy over match schedules

Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts says that the Super League fixtures are somewhat “unfair” to local fans.

Speaking to reporters after the match against Sime Darby FC last Tuesday, he said that Sarawak did not get a fair share of Saturday home matches.

Such weekend matches, he noted, are vital for Sarawak fans, especially young fans, as they could have the next day (Sunday) as a rest day.

“We seem to have more Tuesday home matches than the ones on Saturday this year. This will make it harder for the fans as they will find difficulties to go to the stadium and support the team,” he added.

Matches on week days are seldom sold out at the Stadium Negeri as fans may choose to stay at home with the following day being a working and school day.

This is compounded by the fact that all Super League matches at Stadium Negeri kick off at 8.45pm and finish by 10.15pm or later.

There is also the added factor of distance.

It is challenging for some fans who live far from Kuching to travel to support the Crocs.

For the 2014 season, Sarawak get to play only five home matches on Saturdays, while the other six are on Tuesdays.

The two home matches played so far this season support Alberts’ observation.

The first against Kelantan on Jan 25 (Saturday) was played in front of a capacity crowd while a few empty seats were noticeable for the second against Sime Darby FC three days later on Jan 28 (Tue).

Selangor loses to Singapore LionsXII again

Francis Doe's late goal gave Kelantan sole possession of top spot and the only 100 per cent record in the Super League yesterday as title rivals Darul Ta'zim and Selangor slumped to away defeats.

Kelantan took advantage of the upsets to open a three-point lead after just two rounds of matches with a 1-0 win over Sarawak, who are the only team without a point, in Kuching.

Defending champions LionsXII maintained their unbeaten record against Selangor in five meetings with a 2-1 win at the Jalan Besar Stadium thanks to Khairul Amri Kamal's stoppage time header while Kuala Terengganu T-Team stunned Darul Ta'zim 1-0.

Malaysia Cup champions Pahang also came unstuck on the road when they were upset 1-0 by unfancied Sime Darby, who also struck the woodwork twice, in Selayang.

Liberia international Doe settled a tight contest at the State Stadium in the 90th minute when he tapped in Mohammad Ghaddar's cutback after the Lebanese forward was sent clear by a precise Badhri Radzi throughball.

Darul Ta'zim failed to capitalise on their opportunities at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium and T-Team, increasingly dominant after they broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute through Patrich Wanggai.

The Indonesian headed into the net after the ball looped up and over the visitors' defence when Evaldo Goncalves headed into the ground off a corner, just 12 minutes after Luciano Figueroa's shot bounced off the base of the post for Darul Ta'zim.

It was the second straight win for T-Team over Darul Ta'zim after their 2-1 win at Larkin in last year's Malaysia Cup.

LionsXII extended their unbeaten home record to 22 matches when Khairul Amri headed past Selangor goalkeeper Farizal Marlias from a corner-kick five minutes into injury time.

Selangor had been set to return with a point after Fitri Shazwan Raduwan's looping header over Izwan Mahbud in the 57th minute cancelled another header by Shakir Hamzah, also from a corner, a minute before half-time.

In Selayang, Pahang were left wondering what went wrong when two former Kuala Lumpur teammates combined to put Sime Darby in front five minutes after half-time.

Just two minutes after hitting the woodwork, Fahrul Razi Kamaruddin headed home left-back Farid Ramli's cross before Mahmoud Al Amnah also struck the frame of goal four minutes later as Sime Darby could have put the match to bed so much earlier.

Perak also left it late for their first win of the season after a stoppage-time strike by Brazilian forward Eliel Da Cruz Guardiano, making his first start, saw Terengganu beaten 1-0 in Ipoh.

Kelantan continue good form while Perak get first win

Kelantan maintained their perfect start to the Super League season after a late Francis Doe goal allowed them to edge Sarawak 1-0 at the State Stadium in Kuching on Saturday night.

The Liberian striker struck for the Red Warriors in the 90th minute just when the game had seemed headed for a stalemate.

Lebanese forward Mohammed Ghaddar, who fired a brace in Kelantan’s 2-0 opening day victory over PKNS last week, was the architect of the goal. Collecting a through ball from his skipper Mohd Badri Radzi, Ghaddar held off Ronny Harun before squaring the ball for Doe to tap in from close range.

Sarawak were the early aggressors but they had to wait until the 22nd minute before registering their first shot at goal. Serbian striker Milorad Janjus unleashed a long-range shot but it went straight into Kelantan goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat’s arms.

The fast-running Sarawak attackers gave the Kelantan defenders a torrid time. Asri Chuchu managed to beat the offside trap in the 24th minute but was thwarted by Zairul Fitree’s last-ditch tackle.

Kelantan also had a narrow escape a few minutes later with Obinna Nwaneri clearing the ball off his own line after national goalkeeper Khairul had failed to clear a corner.

Khairul was beaten two minutes before half-time by a volley from Sarawak skipper Joseph Kallang Tie. But to Sarawak’s disappointment, the effort was chalked off for offside.

Kelantan’s best chance of the first half fell to Doe. Despite being unmarked in front of goal, he headed the ball straight at goalkeeper Sani Anuar.

Doe did put the ball in the Sarawak net nine minutes into the second half, but the Liberian was ruled offside.

Sarawak again held the initiative in the second period but failed to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities.

And the Crocs were made to pay for their profligacy when Doe struck in the final minute of regulation time.

At the Perak Stadium in Ipoh, the home side relied on a 90th minute winner from Eliel Guardiano to stun Terengganu 1-0. It was Perak’s first win of the campaign.

Sarawak fans asked to behave during matches

Police are advising fanatical football fans in Sarawak to keep their emotions in check.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said it was okay to be supportive of their favourite teams but violence was a no no.

"The case of fans turning violent recently is something rare in Sarawak and it is an isolated incident," he told reporters on the sidelines of Bukit Aman director of management Datuk Mortadza Nazerene's visit to Sarawak Energy Berhad's office here Friday.

He added that following the violence that happened at  Stadium Negeri Petra Jaya here on April 7, police would beef up their presence at stadiums and also enlist the help of the General Operations Fore and People's Volunteer Corps.

L/Cpl Amzari Othman, 33, was injured in the lips after fans turned unruly and attacked policemen at the stadium that day.

Kelantan win to stay top while Singapore move into second in Super League

Kelantan scored their biggest win of the season when they thrashed lowly Felda United 5-1 in a Super League match at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru last night.

The Red Warriors showed no mercy to the struggling club side after Nigerian import Nwoha Onyekachi led the goal rush with a brace in the third and 45th minutes.

Mohd Norfarhan Mohd (65th), Indra Putra Mahayuddin (69th) and skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi (80th) were also on target.

Felda’s goal came via Azrul Ahmad’s equaliser in the fourth minute.

The big win saw the east coast side consolidating their position at the top of the league with 26 points from 11 matches.

Lions XII moved up to second spot after they edged T-Team 2-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Midfielder Shahdan Sulaiman converted a penalty in the 85th minute to claim full points for the Singaporeans.

Lions skipper Shahril Ishak fired the hosts ahead in the 51st minute before his T-Team counterpart Zairo Anuar Zailani drew level just two minutes later.

Terengganu dropped to third place on 21 points after being held to goalless draw by Johor FC at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.

At the Likas Stadium, Selangor were forced to labour to a 1-1 draw with Sabah.

The Rhinos’ Australian import Michael Baird stunned the Red Giants with an early strike after only three minutes before leftback P. Gunalan equalised in the 60th minute.

Midfielder Baird took advantage of a miscommunication between Selangor goalkeeper G. Jeevananthan and rightback Mohd Razman Roslan to draw first blood.

Selangor came back stronger in the second half to dominate the match and Gunalan blasted in a half volley for a well-deserved equaliser.

In Kelana Jaya, Sarawak stunned PKNS FC 4-1 at the MBPJ Stadium. The East Malaysians scored through Shahrol Saperi (12), Ashri Chuchu (45, 81) and Vedran Muratovic (65) while Khairul Azrin (58th) replied for PKNS FC.

Kelantan retain lead while Terengganu continue chase in Super League

Kelantan defeated Perak 2-0 yesterday to maintain their three-point lead at the top of the Super League standings while Selangor and Terengganu impressed with convincing victories.

Defender Mohd Daudsu Jamaluddin scored after 12 minutes before Zairul Fitree Ishak added Kelantan's second in the 29th minute in Ipoh.

In the Klang Valley derby, Selangor overcame a resilient Kuala Lumpur   3-0 in Bukit Jali.

After a goalless first half, Bosko Balaban broke the deadlock when he headed in unchallenged at the far post for his third goal of the season in the 57th minute from Razman Roslan's cross.

P. Gunalan made it 2-0 with an overhead kick four minutes later before Amirulhadi Zainal got the third with a long-range strike in stoppage time.

Francis Forkey Doe's hat-trick earned Terengganu a 6-3 victory over Sabah in Kuala Terengganu.

The Liberian striker scored in the 13th, 15th and 78th minutes while Ashaari Samsuddin (fifth), Manaf Mamat (44th) and Joseph Kallang Tie (80th) added the other goals.

Sabah replied through Zainizam Marjan (35th), Brendan Gan (45th) and Rozaimi Abdul Rahman (68th).

In Kuching, Singapore's LionsXII edged Sarawak 1-0 in a match which was delayed 10 minutes in the first half for faulty flood lights.

Captain Shahril Ishak scored from a penalty after Sarawak defender Yosri Derma Raju elbowed him in the 73rd minute.

Terengganu lead LionsXII on goals difference with both teams on par with 20 points.

Sarawak-Singapore match marred by unhappy fans

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will wait for the match commissioner's report before making any comments on the match between Sarawak and the Lions XII (Singapore) at the State Stadium in Kuching last night.

The Super League match between Sarawak and the Lions which saw the Singapore outfit win 1-0, was said to have been marred by fans who threw objects and fireworks onto the field as a mark of protest against the match referee who was said to be bias.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said the FAM would not be able to take any action before receiving the match commissioner's report.

Kelantan beat Perak to remain top in Super League

Kelantan tightened their grip at the top of the Super League table with a 2-0 win over Perak at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh, Saturday night.

The win enabled Kelantan under the tutelage of Bojan Hodak to collect 23 points from 10 matches.

Lions XII plummeted from the second spot due to goal difference despite winning by a solitary goal over Sarawak at the State Stadium in Kuching with the goal scored by captain Shahril Ishak in the 72nd minute.

Elsewhere, Selangor beat Kuala Lumpur 3-0 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Negeri Sembilan beat Kedah 2-1 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi and T-Team upset Johor FC 3-1 at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council Stadium.

Sarawak coach confident of top-three finish in Super League

Fast-improving Sarawak have not ruled out a top-three finish in the Super League this season.

Head coach Robert Alberts said while their aim is to be in the top half of the 14-team league, they could do much better.

“I won’t be surprised to see us among the top three judging by the team’s impressive displays,” the Dutchman said in Kuching yesterday.

Sarawak, who gained promotion after finishing runners-up to PKNS FC in the Premier League last season, are currently eighth in the standings with 11 points – just six behind leaders Kelantan.

The Crocs may not boast big names but Alberts has done well to get them to play as a cohesive unit.

“The boys are starting to have self-belief. They nearly pulled it off against Kelantan in the FA Cup. If not for their inexperience, we could have scored a famous win. I’m sure Sarawak will be the team to watch next season,” said Alberts.

Sarawak’s strike force comprises players in their early 20s – Mohd Rashid Mohd Aya is only 22, Asri Chuchu is 21 and K. Ravindran is 23.

While he attributed their success to teamwork, Alberts also praised Cameroon’s Bwele Guy, 28, for being a rock in defence. Sarawak’s other foreigner is Croatian striker Muratovic Vedran.

T-Team wary of giant-killing feats of Sarawak

T-Team will be on Croc alert when they take on Sarawak in a Super League match at Stadium Sultan Ismail tonight.

“We are well aware of Sarawak’s giant-killing feats but I’m confident we can get the better of them. We will give them due respect but we won’t be overawed on our home turf,” said T-Team coach Yunus Alif.

Sarawak have held Negri Sembilan (2-2) and Selangor (0-0) this season and made Kelantan slog for a narrow 2-1 win in the first round of the FA Cup.

But Yunus believes that his players, who were firing on all cylinders before the Super League took a short break, can continue with their winning streak.

He is especially pleased with the good form of Zairo Anuar Zailani and Faiz Subri.

“We are wary of the threat posed by Sarawak’s two foreign players,” said Yunus, referring to Croatian Vedran Muratovic and Guy Bwele of Cameroon.

“Our defenders have to be on their toes against these two and we will try to hit them on the break.”

T-Team only have one foreigner, Bosnian Bojan Petric, after axing the disappointing Zachariah Simukonda.

Yunus revealed that Brazilian Marco Tulio, 31, had impressed in trials.

“If all goes well, we will sign him during the April transfer window,” he said.

T-Team are in fifth place in the 14-team standings with 13 points – four behind leaders Kelantan.

Terengganu, Kelantan and Selangor progress to next round in FA Cup

Defending champions Terengganu cruised into the second round of the FA Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Police while their neighbours Kelantan had to dig deep into their reserves to edge Sarawak 2-1 yesterday.

At the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru, substitute Mohd Norfarhan Mohd – who replaced the ineffective Nigerian Onyekachi Nwoha – turned hero for the Red Warriors when  he scored the winner in stoppage time.

Mohd Azizan Baba stunned the hosts by firing Sarawak ahead in the 20th minute before Indra Putra Mahayuddin equalised in the 34th minute.

Kelantan coach Peter Butler said he was happy with his side’s performance after being given such a tough fight by Sarawak.

“The team played well but I would be happier if we scored more goals,” said Butler.

“In a knock-out competition, you can’t afford to underestimate your opponent.. they have nothing to lose.”

Kelantan will meet Kuala Lumpur in the second round on March 10. The City side defeated Muar MC 3-0.

Sarawak coach Robert Alberts said his players did not play to their full potential but praised his Cameroon signing Guy Bwele.

Sarawak should have won the match in the dying minutes but their Croatian striker Vedran Muratovic ballooned a sitter which eventually cost his side a famous win.

“I’m proud of my team’s performance despite the players not playing to their true potential. Kelantan have invested the most in players and should beat us,” said Alberts.

In Kuala Terengganu, Abdul Manaf Mamat hit a brace for the Turtles in the 38th and 65th minutes while Abdul Hadi Yahya (10th) and Francis Doe (80th) nailed one each.

The night’s upset saw the fall of Negri Sembilan to club side Johor FC 1-2 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.

Arthuro Bernhardt was the hero for Johor FC, scoring a brace in the 25th and 81st minutes while Jean-Emmanuel Owona replied for Negri in the 31st minute.

Johor FC will meet Selangor in the next round.

In Temerloh, Selangor skipper Mohd Amri Yahyah celebrated his 100th goal en route to the Red Giants’ 4-0 whitewash of FAM Cup side Shahzan Muda.

New signing Bosko Balaban scored in his second consecutive match in the 21st minute before Mohd Safiq Rahim netted a brace in the 65th and 72nd minutes.

Amri bagged his century in the 81st minute.

The match between Kedah and PKNS FC ended 1-1 after regulation and extra-time before the Canaries emerged 4-2 winners in a penalty shootout at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar.

In Shah Alam, Singapore Lions downed Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) FC 3-0 at the UiTM Stadium.

Leftback Saiful Esah opened the scoring in the ninth minute before rightback Madhu Mohana doubled their lead in the 15th.

UiTM skipper Ahmad Shahril scored an own goal in the 85th minute to complete the rout.

Sarawak in confident mood after beating Johor FC

A come-from-behind 2-1 win over Johor FC in a Super League match saw Sarawak give themselves the perfect boost for the tough first-round FA Cup match against Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru tomorrow.

Sarawak, playing in the Super League after a five-year absence, are feeling the heat but have done well against experienced teams to be placed in mid-table.

Tuesday's win over fancied Johor FC at the Pasir Gudang Stadium had coach Robert Alberts wearing a broad grin.

"It is the perfect boost for the FA Cup match against Kelantan," he said.

The Dutchman added:    "Kelantan is the toughest place to play football in Malaysia. But we are going there with confidence.

"We can beat any team on our day ... but we can also lose. That's football."

Sarawak showed character to score through Cameroonian midfielder Guy Bwele, who also wore the skipper's armband for the night, off a free kick in the 34th minute.

Former Johor FC player Azizan Baba headed the winner in the 74th minute from a corner-kick taken by Ashri Chuchu.

Johor FC had earlier taken the lead in the 21st minute through Brazilian signing Arthuro Henrique who curled a left-footed free kick past Sarawak keeper Sani Anuar Kamsani.

The defeat left Johor FC winless at home after four matches.

Sarawak are currently eighth with 11 points after eight matches while Johor FC slipped to ninth with 10 points.

Roberts is also hoping that skipper Hairol Mokhtar could join the team for the Kelantan match.
Hairol did not play against Johor FC as he was allowed to stay back in Kuching to be with his pregnant wife who is in hospital.

Kelantan lose to Selangor but still lead standings in Super League

Super League leader, Kelantan had their unbeaten run broken by Selangor who edged them 2-1 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium Tuesday night.

Despite failing to collect three points in their eighth match, the Red Warriors still remained at the top of the league table with a total of 17 points, two points ahead of nearest challenger, Perak.

Selangor appeared to be putting a more orderly game with Safiq Rahim scoring the first goal with a powerful shot in the 47th minute while Selangor newcomer made it 2-0 in the 75th minute.

However, Kelantan's consolation goal came in the 92nd minute courtesy of  S.Subramaniam.

Perak, who are placed second in the league table, also lost 1-2 to Lions XII at the Stadium Perak, Ipoh.

Lions XII goals came from Mohd Sharil Ishak in the 17th minute and Shaiful Esah in the 75th, while Perak's solitary goal was contributed by Michal Kubala in the 54th (penalty).

Meanwhile, T-Team beat Felda United 3-0 at Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka.

The goals for T-Team were scored by Mohd Faiz Subri in the 31st and 69th minutes, while Zairo Anuar made it 3-0 in the 84th minute.

At the Stadium Likas, Sabah, the homester easily beat the bottom team in the league, Kuala Lumpur 2-0 courtesy of Mohd Rozaimi Abdul Rahman in the 36th and Michael William Bird in the 46th minutes.

Johor FC lost 1-2 to visitors Sarawak at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council Stadium, Johor.

However, Johor FC scored first in the 21st minute through Arthur Henrique but Sarawak equalised in the 33rd minute, thanks to Guy Bwele, while Mohd Azizan Baba made it 2-1 for Sarawak in the 74th minute.

Selangor PKNS meanwhile drew 1-1 with homesters Negeri Sembilan at the Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi, and Terengganu too drew 1-1 with Kedah at the Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, Kuala Terengganu.

Johor FC hoping Brazilian striker Arthuro can play against Sarawak

The delay in getting Brazilian striker Arthuro Henrique Bernhardt's International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is a cause for concern for Johor FC as they seek their first home win in the Super League against Sarawak tonight.

Johor FC have managed just one point in Pasir Gudang, from a 1-1 draw with  Felda United after defeats to Negri Sembilan (2-0) and Perak (1-0).

Johor FC,  however, have won three of their four away matches -- PKNS FC (2-1), Kedah (3-1) and Kuala Lumpur (2-0). Their only away loss was to  Kelantan (2-1).

With their goal shy local strikers  producing another woeful performance in their 2-0 win  over  Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, team manager Wan Nizam Wan Omar is keeping his fingers crossed Bernhardt's ITC will arrive in time for the match against Sarawak, who beat Felda 2-1 in their last match.

Sarawak's new signing Croatian Vedran Muratovic, who replaced the injured Cameroonian Kalle Sonne, has been a hit with the Crocs, scoring a goal each in the two matches he has played so far.

"We need a striker like Arthuro upfront. He has been impressive and the coach (K. Devan) believes the Brazilian can solve our problems. We managed only two against KL but it should have been half a dozen," said Wan Nizam.

They already have the services of another Brazilian -- defender Fernando Augosto Ferreira who has featured  in their last two matches.

"Our poor scoring record has caused the team dearly. We should have won against Negri, Perak and Felda United. Arthuro is a proven striker and I am confident that he will be able to turn the tide for us."

Devan, while hoping for Arthuro's ITC to arrive in time,   welcomes back Azi Shahril Azmi from a one match suspension while Fauzi Saari will undergo a late fitness test for an ankle injury.

Struggling Selangor lose again as Kelantan lead standings in Super League

Defending champions Kelantan surged to the top of the Super League after they edged bitter rivals Terengganu 2-1 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru last night.

National striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha fired the Red Warriors ahead in the 37th minute before skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi added a second in the 52nd.

Substitute Abdul Manaf Mamat pulled one back for the Turtles in the 91st minute.

Kelantan lead the standings on 17 points as overnight leaders Perak crashed to a surprise 0-2 defeat to T-Team at the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.

The Seladang slipped to second on 15 points.

Norizan Bakar’s charges conceded two goals in the second-half with T-Team’s Bosnian import Bojan Patrick (56th minute) and Zairo Annuar Zailani (88th, penalty) on target.

In Kelana Jaya, PKNS FC grabbed their first win of the season by beating Selangor 2-0 at the MBPJ Stadium.

Former Selangor striker Rudie Ramli drew first blood for PKNS in the 35th minute before Helmi Remeli blasted home a second goal in the 61st.

It was a double blow for the Red Giants, who were unable to field Croatian striker Bosko Balaban as he has yet to receive his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Even the return of Lebanese central defender, Ramez Dayoub, from a one-match suspension failed to keep Selangor steady.

A defensive lapse allowed Rudie to sneak a goal past Selangor goalkeeper Norazlan Razali before Helmi nodded home from Fauzan Dzulkifli’s cross.

Selangor came close to an equaliser in the 43rd minute when Mohd Fitri Shazwan Raduwan’s glancing header hit the crossbar.

Selangor’s insipid display continued in the second half as they failed to stamp any authority on the match. The lack of an out-and-out striker is also another cause of the team’s downfall.

Singapore’s Lions XII skipper Shahril Ishak netted a brace in their 3-1 win over Negri Sembilan at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Shahril got his first from a spot kick in the 31st minute after Negri midfielder Shahurain Abu Samah handled the ball inside the box.

Shahdan Sulaiman fired the Lions’ second in the 50th minute before Shahril sealed the winner in the 59th minute.

Mohd Firdaus Azizul scored Negri’s consolation goal in the 90th minute.

The Singaporeans are now fourth with 11 points, ahead of Negri on goal difference.

In Kuching, Mohd Asri Chuchu struck a las-gasp winner in Sarawak’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Felda United at the Sarawak Stadium.

The Crocodiles fell behind after Felda’s Mohd Asri found the net in the 38th minute.

Croatian striker Vedran Muratovic made it level for the homesters in the 50th minute before the 18-year-old Asri hit the winner from close range in the last minute.

Johor FC defeated Kuala Lumpur 2-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium with Haris Safwan (7th minute) and substitute Jasazrin Jamaluddin (86th) scoring the goals.

Kelantan beat Terengganu to move back into first place in Super League

Kelantan returned to the top of the Super League table again with a 2-1 win over archrivals Terengganu in front of their home crowd at the Sultan Mohamad IV Stadium, Kota Baharu Saturday night.

With the win, the Red Warriors collected 17 points to clip Perak's wings by two points after seven matches.

The home team opened scoring through Norsharul Idlan Talaha in the 37th minute before skipper Mohd Badhri Mohd Radzi made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

Fighting an uphill battle, Terengganu reduced the deficit in the dying minutes of the match through Mohd Ashari Shamsudin.

Perak's hopes of staying at the top of the league fizzled out when they succumbed to a 0-2 defeat to T-Team at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, Kuala Terengganu after a scoreless first half.

T-Team went ahead through Bojan Petric in the 56 minute before Zairo Anuar Zailani added another goal from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.

At the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, Kelana Jaya, Selangor had to eat a humble pie when they went down 0-2 to Selangor PKNS with one goal in each half from Rudie Ramli (33rd minute) and Helmi Remeli (60th minute).

Elsewhere, Sarawak edged Felda United 2-1 at the state stadium in Kuching while Lions XII beat Negeri Sembilan 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore and Kedah were held to a 2-2 draw by Sabah at the Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.

Kuala Lumpur, who are at the wrong end of the table, failed to break the jinx by reeling to a 0-2 defeat to Johor FC at the Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka.

Perak beat Sarawak to move into first place in Super League

Perak grabbed the lead in the Super  League from Kelantan after edging Sarawak 2-1 at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh Wednesday night.

Perak's goals were scored by their Slovakian import Michal Kubala in the 7th minute and Mohd Fazrul Hazli Mohd Kadri (26th minute) while Vedran Muratovich netted the consolation goal for the visitors from a penaltry awarded in the 34th minute.

The win gave the Seladang who were in third place 15 points overall after six matches to dethrone Kelantan from the top position.

Kelantan fell into second place after only managing a 1-1 draw against Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.

Their neighbours Terengganu also had a similar result against Selangor PKNS at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.

Meanwhile, Selangor and Johor FC also followed in the footsteps of Kelantan and Terengganu, carving out the same result on their home turfs.

The Red Giants were tied to a 1-1 draw when hosting Singapore's Lions XII squad at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil with Shahril Ishak opening the scoring for the visitors in the 43rd minute before K. Gurusamy pulled level for the hosts in the 45th minute.

Johor FC and Felda United also played to a 1-1 draw at the Pasir Gudang Stadium with Mohd Syazwan Zainon putting the hosts ahead in the 82nd minute before Mohd Azrul Ahmad neutralised the advantage three minutes later.

Elsewhere, Negeri Sembilan edged T-team 2-1 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi while Kedah notched their first victory this season, defeating Kuala Lumpur 1-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka with Mohd Khyril Muhymeen producing the solitary goal in the 6th minute.

Kelantan beat Kuala Lumpur to maintain lead in Super League

Kelantan consolidated its position at the top of the Super League table while Terengganu, another east coast side, kept pace with the leader after collecting three points from their respective matches  played Saturday night.

Kelantan beat Kuala Lumpur 3-0 at the Sultan Mohamed IV Stadium in Kota Baharu for their fourth win in five matches, amassing 13 points while Terengganu who scored a slim 1-0 victory over the Singapore Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore have 12 points.

Perak who beat Felda United at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka have also collected 12 points but trail Terengganu in third place due to an inferior goal difference.

Norshahrul Idlan Talaha opened the score for Kelantan in the 46th minute while Antwi Dennis Agyre made it 2-0 in the 76th minute and Mohd Badri Mohd Radzi completed the convincing win with a 78th minute strike.

In Singapore, Francis Doe Forkey was the hero for Terengganu with his 77th minute goal.

In Alor Setar, Kedah's poor form in the league continued when Johor FC went home with all three points after their 3-1 win at the Darul Aman Stadium.

Klang Valley giants Selangor returned to winning ways by beating T-Team 2-1 at the Sultan Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu with goals from Ramez Jamal Dayoub (38th min) and Azidan Sarudin (78th min) while Zairol Anuar Zalani (49th min) scored T-Team's only goal of the night.

At the Kuching Stadium, Sarawak came from behind twice to hold Negeri Sembilan to a 2-2 draw for a share of the points.

Ahmad Shakir Md Ali (21st min) and Shukor Adan (81st min) scored for Negeri Sembilan while Sarawak had to thank Guy Bwele (50th min penalty) and Zamri Morshidi (83rd min) for the draw.

Sarawak set to sign Croatian striker Murato Viz

Super League newcomers Sarawak and Cameroon striker Kalle Sonne are parting ways even before the 29-year-old has kicked a ball in competition.

Coach Robert Alberts had high hopes on Sonne but a groin injury he picked while playing in a friendly against the President's Cup team before the league got underway is much more serious than initially thought, which has forced Sarawak to sign a new foreign striker.

The Crocs are now in the midst of registering Croatian hit-man Murato Viz who has been training with them for the past week.

It is not known if he will get the green light for Sarawak's home match against  Malaysia Cup champions Negri Sembilan tomorrow.

"Sarawak need a foreign striker to help score goals.

"We lost to Sabah and Terengganu because their foreign players scored against us.

"Sonne's injury has been a huge blow to us.

"I am convinced the results of our last three matches would have been  different if Sonne had played," said Alberts from Kuching, referring to Sarawak's 2-1 defeat to Sabah (away), 1-0 to Terengganu (home) and the scoreless draw against Selangor away.

Sarawak started off their Super League campaign with a 2-0 win over  Kuala Lumpur at home.

"So far we have done well ...we are on par with the other teams in the league.

"Our biggest problem has been not scoring from the many opportunities that we created.

"Our strike force is very young with three players aged either 21 and 22.

"We lack a composed striker and Sonne, with his European (playing) experience would have made the difference."

Sarawak's other foreigner is defender Guy Bwele, 27, also from Cameroon.
